Dauphin Island and Baldwin County once again begin preparations for possible hurricane
DAUPHIN ISLAND -- Take the lawnmower and fishing rods upstairs, take them back down under the house again. John Prewitt of Dauphin Island said he's getting tired of the "island shuffle."
"Last month before Dennis, we moved everything upstairs and nothing happened, just some water under the house," Prewitt said early Friday morning, as he again began clearing out the stuff stored under his west-end Bienville Boulevard home. "But I'll do it all over again because Katrina may be what Dennis was supposed to be."
The people of coastal Alabama began Friday going through what is now an all-too-familiar storm preparation routine, shoring up for whatever Hurricane Katrina may bring their way.
From Orange Beach to Dauphin Island, homeowners were clearing deck furniture, police were filling up emergency gas tanks and business owners were preparing for hurricane-forced closure.
