Chicago area students on Dauphin Island for Arts Project

Seventeen 7th and 8th grade students from Highland Park, Illinois are making a three day visit to Bayou La Batre and Dauphin Island. During their visit they will will work side-by-side with their peers from local schools on an artistic exhibit chronicling the lives of Gulf Coast students' lives - how they have changed since the hurricanes.

Look for them on Dauphin Island during the next three days. They will visit the Little Red Schoolhouse to learn about the hurricane experiences of Dauphin Island residents.

Students to work together to build traveling photography and poetry exhibit

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. -- Seventeen students from a Highland Park middle school left today for Bayou La Batre, Alabama, a small, storm-ravaged coastal town about 25 miles south of Mobile, to work with local students on an arts project designed to help them process their emotions in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The Highland Park seventh- and eighth-graders, members of the Future Problem Solvers of America team at Elm Place Middle School, will spend the next three days in Bayou La Batre working with peers at Alba Middle School. Together, they will create a traveling exhibit of visual and written art that will demonstrate how the Gulf Coast students' lives have changed since the hurricanes.
