Bits & Pieces: Regular Board meeting
Ken Guess was hired to work part-time on the golf course.
Carol Merkel and the Architectural Committee were presented with a plaque as Volunteers of the Year.
Records of the POA are open to the membership. Lists of members are available for $100 or with a $100 membership fee. After a discussion, the majority of the board voted not to distribute e-mail addresses.
Ron Benoit moved to accept the lease for poolside food service (12 months renewable for 12 months). There would be a 10% discount with pool membership, rates to be determined, and negotiable in the event of a long-term arrangement with a development entity.
An 18-month lease of the Isle Dauphine (larger building) was granted to Mary Scarcliffe, renewable for 18 months. The building is to be used solely for events.
Membership Meeting:
Dues are mandatory but the constitution provides no consequences. The fiscal year is May 1-April 30.
The amount of $100 was approved.
David Connolly made a suggestion to delegate some of the dues income to projects other than the golf course.
A boat launch on POA property was suggested.
A property owner suggested that she would be willing to pay more dues to have someone clean the beaches.
Another property owner suggested that categories of interest be determined so that people can donate to specific projects.
Other suggestions were to have “poop†bags for dogs on the beach, closure of the park after dark to keep crime down, and/or payment for use of the beach. Logistical problems with golfers/ restaurant users re: fee for parking/beach were brought up.
Mayor Jeff Collier said that the starting date for the berm was late this year or early next year and the Town is trying to hurry it up. A legal easement and registration of said document and permission of affected property owners is required by the state although it applies this requirement unevenly. This easement would be permanent. This is a prerequisite to any publicly funded beach renourishment. There is a condemnation process for denying the easement.
Election Results:
The number of votes cast this year was one of the highest in 15 years.
The 3 incumbents, Tom Brennan, Phil Fusilier and David Connolly were re-elected. Congratulations and thanks for all of your hard work.
The proposal regarding the golf course was overwhelmingly positively received, approximately 80% in favor. Likewise for the possibility of deeding the west end beach to the Town, also around 80%.
Annual election of officers by the Board results:
President: John Reed
Vice President: Jackie Previto
Treasurer: Ron Benoit
Secretary: Phil Fusilier
Misc. bits:
John Reed reported a favorable opinion obtained by an attorney and the Board approved the effort to seek registration of the Isle Dauphine on the National Register.
Board member Phil Fusilier reported that an unofficial survey of golfers wanted the golf course to be 18 holes. Approximately 57 thousand dollars has been allocated for maintenance and reclamation of the second 9 holes. Jeff Collier says it will take most of the summer to get the new grass started.
It was proposed that a committee be formed to identify possible recreational opportunities afforded by POA properties. The committee will be chaired by Deborah Colburn: Tom Brennan and David Connolly will represent the Board on that committee.
The next meeting will be on June 10 at 10:00 am at a place to be announced.
In other news:
It was announced yesterday that Dauphin Island will be awarded the $600,000 for their share of the berm. This does not mean that you do not have to contribute as the amount estimated for the local share is just that, an estimate. It may also mean that more sand can be used for the berm from the north shore. Everyone who is able needs to pitch in whatever he/she can!
