Dauphin Island is a flurry of activity these days preparing for a big 2006 vacation season.
Lots of work going on [Dauphin Island's West End]. Road work, house work, new pilings. You can now drive all the way to the fence with a normal vehicle, and it's a pretty smooth ride. Bulldozers were working the front 9 of the (Isle Dauphine) golf course yesterday too. I counted about 10 cement trucks working on the main drag between Cadillac Square and the west end fence. Driveways from the street across the water/sewer easements are being put in and packed down.

The Dauphin Island Property Owners' Association is wasting no time following up their promise to get all 18 holes of the Isle Dauphine open and ready for play once again.
The Board, which had previously approved $12,000 for debris and sand removal on the front nine, approved an additional $58,000 to ensure all 18 holes are ready for play.

And it's a good thing. With so much activity on the West End it won't be long before all those vacation homes are back on line and full of Dauphin Island vacationers, many of whom will be bringing their golf clubs.
