6 1/2 lb trout takes Saturday's Speckled Trout Tournament

The Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association's 17th annual Speckled Trout Tournament wrapped up this past Saturday. A 6.5 pound Speckled Trout caught by Mark Kraft took the honors. About 250 anglers turned out for the event, making it a tremendously successful fund raising event for the Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association.

The conservation association plans to use the proceeds to fund their Kids Day outing, their wood duck box program in the Delta and on various bay reef restoration projects.

Kraft lands top fish in tourney

Mark Kraft weighed in a 6-pound, 8-ounce speckled trout at the Grand Hotel Marina to win the 17th annual Speckled Trout Tournament on Saturday.

"There were a lot of nice fish caught," Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association Executive Director Jim Caulk said. "Everyone who came up to weigh had several fish. There was one group of three guys who had a whole box of fish."

The event attracted about 250 participants, with weigh-in stations at Dauphin Island and Point Clear.

"It was one of the best tournaments we've had," Caulk said. "We had more people on this tournament as far as ticket sales.

"So many things were going on at Dauphin Island. There was a spearfishing thing going on, too."

The fishing tournament serves as the main fund-raiser for the organization. Full story and results
