Fishing conditions during the event are expected to be significantly above average, so the competition should be lively and fun for all.

The BLT - that perfect sandwich of summer

This is one party that just reading about it is a whole lot of fun. No mistake, it would have been better to have been there.

Coincidentally - or maybe not - I had my own variation of the BLT just yesterday for lunch. My recipe is a little simpler than the norm. I leave off the lettuce. I save it for a salad where it belongs.

Antiques Roadshow comes to Mobile, Dauphin Island

If you see a film crew on Dauphin Island today give them directions to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary. The bird sanctuary is one of the field trips around the Mobile Area which is to be included in an episode of the Antiques Roadshow to be recorded in Mobile this weekend.

Approximately 5,000 to 6,000 people will attend the main attraction appraisal event, which will take place at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center from 8am to 6pm this Saturday. All that's needed for admission is a ticket and an item to be appraised.

Unfortunately there are no more tickets to be had. WGBH in Boston, the show's owner and operator, gave away 3400 pairs of tickets already.

Emergency Siren test set for tomorrow morning

If you're not awake by 9am tomorrow morning you will be by 9:01. Mobile county emergency officials plan to test their public warning system in the morning.

The system includes 5 new sirens, one of which is located on the east end of Dauphin Island. This one is a replacement to the siren that Ivan took out a couple of years ago. If you happen to be located within approximately a one-mile radius you're likely to hear it.

If you happen to be sleeping in out toward the west end of Dauphin Island you probably won't even hear the test. A siren had been located out on the west end. It fell victim to a storm and has not been replaced.
