Kelly's Landing to host LNG victory celebration

The Alabama chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association is celebrating victory over the withdrawal by ConocoPhillips of their proposal to build an open loop LNG regasification facility at Compass Point, 11 miles south of Dauphin Island.

Head on down to Kelly's Landing at 5:30pm, grab a bowl of jambalaya and join in the celebrations.

CCA event today at Kelly's Landing

The Alabama chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association will hold an LNG victory celebration and membership drive at 5:30 p.m. today at Kelly's Landing (old Beachcomber dock) on Dog River.

Noted chef Jamie Roussos will make enough jambalaya for everybody at the event.

The celebration will focus on the success of the opposition from Alabama's coastal anglers and concerned citizens to a proposed liquefied natural gas facility about 12 miles south of Dauphin Island.

ConocoPhillips withdrew its application after Gov. Bob Riley indicated a likely veto of the proposal.

Meanwhile, Bob Shipp, head of marine sciences at the University of South Alabama, will give a presentation on the status of the offshore marine fishery.

Also, Capt. Bobby Abruscato of A-Team Adventures will discuss inshore fishing tactics for speckled trout and redfish.

CCA membership costs $25 per year, which includes annual subscriptions to TIDE magazine and a CCA Alabama newsletter. Read more
