Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo update

With weather and sea conditions nearly perfect for anglers, the 74th annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is off to a huge start. Right from the start the weigh in station has been busy as anglers bring in the big fish. And lots of them too. This year's tournament looks like it will be one for the record books.

You can keep up to the minute with the day's catch and complete tournament standings at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo web site's live tournament results web page.

For more reading, here are a few of the stories so far about the tournament.

Records get reeled in

74th annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo gets underway

The fishing begins today in the 74th annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. Weather and Gulf of Mexico fishing conditions are expected to be excellent. We'll be looking for a record event with lots of fun and lots of the old records falling.

Speaking of fun, yesterday's Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo Cellular South Liars Contest must have been a real hoot to see. Read on for the story in today's Mobile Register.

24th annual Conde Cavalier Fishing Rodeo set for mid-August

Dauphin Island Marina will host the 24th annual Conde Cavalier Mardi Gras Fishing Rodeo on the 12th and 13th of August.

The fishing starts Saturday morning August 12, at 6am and runs through Sunday afternoon August 13, at 5pm. The weigh in station will open at 10am on Saturday, closing at 6pm. Sunday's weigh in hours are 10am through tournament close at 5pm.

An awards ceremony will begin immediately following Sunday's weigh in. Anglers will compete for prizes through 5th place in all categories except King Mackerel, where awards go out to 8th place. In addition to the regular competition there will be a bonus prize of $100 for the first fish to break the Alabama state record in its category.

TV and Film Crews on Dauphin Island

Dauphin Island is becoming more of a TV star these days. Earlier this month Dauphin Island was the focus of a segment for a Mobile, Alabama installment of the Antiques Roadshow. Film crews visited Dauphin Island to capture footage in the Audubon Bird Sanctuary.

In a story this morning we learn that Dauphin Island will be a part of two more upcoming television shows and a French documentary. ABC's "Nightline" news program and Food Network's "Good Eats" program crews were both on the island recently to film segments for their respective shows, along with an independent French documentary crew creating a film having to do with Dauphin Island.

74th annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo kicks off today with Liars Contest

The 74th annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo kicks off today in a manner of speaking. A manner of public speaking that is.

First up on the agenda for the 74th annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is a liars contest which will take place at the rodeo site on Dauphin Island. Sponsored by Cellular South, the liars will compete for bragging rights. As if the best liar needs any right to brag about it...

The tournament kicks off tomorrow. Record numbers are expected to turn out for the rodeo - both in spectators and in participants. Just as for last week's Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament, the weather and sea conditions are forecast near perfect for fishing.

Something tells me this year's Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo results might raise the bar of believability and make things tougher on next year's liars. It's going to be some fantastic fun for all.
