The 12th Annual Orange Beach October Fishing Rodeo gets under way on Monday, and you can use Dauphin Island as your base of operations for the entire tournament.
For those not familiar with the October Fishing Rodeo, it's a month long competition with cash prizes awarded to anglers competing in several categories: gag grouper, amberjack, king mackerel, red snapper, triggerfish, redfish, and speckled trout.
The organizers of the Orange Beach October Fishing Rodeo have raised the prize amounts this year to attract even more anglers to participate.
Competing is easy. Each day any angler wants to compete he or she must only purchase a $5 entry ticket at any of several Alabama Gulf Coast area locations. You can buy your ticket for any day starting at noon the day before.
That's where Dauphin Island comes in. Anglers can purchase tickets for the Orange Beach October Fishing Rodeo on Dauphin Island; and the Dauphin Island Marina is one of the participating weigh-in stations for winning fish. The others are the San Roc Cay Marina, the Orange Beach Marina, Zeke's Marina, and The Marina at The Wharf.
