Rob's been at it again. Recognize this photo? It isn't your average photo of people enjoying a leisurely Sunday afternoon on the beach at Dauphin Island.
These people are enjoying a leisurely Sunday afternoon on the beach on Sand Island.
Stairs from the Dauphin Island fishing pier to Sand Island? Maybe not. Check out Rob's photo journal from this weekend for the full tour.
From the looks of the photo I'd say the Holiday Isle has topped out. It's reached that point in construction where progress is hard to see, giving the appearance that little is happening.
You'll also find there a photo of the Duke, which later this week will embark on a very special cruise. Here's to you, Fats.
While others were making up pranks to play on people yesterday, our Mobile area kayaking photojournalist friend Rob Nykvist was out on the Little Catfish Bayou taking some great photos.
Many of the small tributaries of Little Catfish Bayou had beautiful displays of Butterweed, aka Ragwort, aka Groundsel, aka Senecio glabellus. ... Today it felt like I was paddling in a beautiful garden.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the fine family of Eric Weiland. Our true and trusted friend we all know as Arkansas Fats has passed on.
Fats died of a heart attack while visiting his son and his family at 1:48am Friday morning.
We're all saddened by this news. Fats will live on in our hearts and minds, reminding us of all the goodness in this world and on Dauphin Island.
Marcus Weiland just called me from El Paso, Texas. His father, Eric Weiland, or as we know him, Arkansas Fats, passed away while visiting him and his new grandson. It was a massive heart attack. I will know more later, but I have a feeling that Fats will be coming to the Island soon.
Today a couple of beautiful photos and a nice story from Sarah Kuzuma, a local real estate broker.
We had such a mild winter in Alabama this year at Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fort Morgan. This phenomenon proved quite confusing for our flowering shrubs. Last week I visited Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile, Alabama with our winter guests during one of our tour activities. The azaleas were absolutely breathtaking as were the daffodils and other beautiful flowers.
